POINTS OF VIEW
Throughout my life I have developed strong views on issues of importance to society. Some would say that, indeed, I am far too opinionated! In this section, therefore, I have gathered together some of these almost random views which I if not others - consider worthwhile of consideration. First, as you might expect, some views on management theory:
8090 Business Structures
8022 Human Resources
8008 Operations Management and Purchasing
And then there are my views on the subject I have followed since the Sixth Form:
8086 Economics 1 - Economics
8029 Economics 2 - Competition or Co-operation
As well as on the discipline I encountered first as an OU undergraduate:
9301 - Social Theory 1 - THINK
8058 Social Theory 2 - Greed or Fulfillment
8081 Social Theory 3 - Modernism and Postmodernism
8099 Social Theory 4 - Science and Nonsense
8034 - Social Theory 5 - Socio-Economic Models
8053 Social Theory 6 - Greece and Rome
8042 Social Theory 7 - Israel
Together with the Political Theory I found on the courses at the OU:
8036 Politics 1 Baby Boomers
8064 Politics 2 Democracy
8085 Politics 3 -- Marxism versus Capitalism
More recently I have returned to essays which examine the future:
8200 The Big Idea the looming fate of the US hegemony
8201 - The New Triad - continental competitors
8202 - The Unexpected - developments over the next
century or so
In the early 1980s, when the Gang of Four had just left the Labour Party and formed the SDP, I first put pen to paper my ideas for public consumption. In fact the resulting material was never to get as far as a publisher, since I readily recognized my limitations. At that time, though I had gained considerable experience across a range of disciplines, nobody would have recognized me as the sort of guru whose views might have been worthwhile considering. In the decades since then I have become an internationally recognized academic, adviser to a number of governments and international bodies, so now maybe my views would carry more weight.
At that time I also indulged in my first major exercise in long range planning, looking forward two decades to 2000AD, for the Molesey Residents Association.
8069 - Residents - Urban Planning - Molesey 2000
Having retired, I decided to indulge myself by running some debates about such issues - and finally even created my own blog. These were signally unsuccesful, but they do contain some further ideas which might be of interest:
