5199 SHAPING THE FUTURE

The main contents of this database comprise reports of what our research groups - think the future may bring. As far as is possible, for predictions of future developments, these have been factual. They might almost be described as a 'history' of the future.

In this section I will briefly bring together the main themes which have emerged from the material. In addition, however, I will make some suggestions - once more italicised - as to how the various issues identified may be addressed and how the future, in general, might be managed; by individuals, organisations and - in particular - governments.

You may consider that many of the ideas which have emerged from our group research are self-evident; but you may also consider that some are obviously speculative. As is the case for the book as a whole, though, it is up to you to judge their validity; in the unique circumstances that you will encounter.

In the longer term the shaping of the future may depend upon to what extent the personal revolution (taking individual empowerment to its logical conclusion) develops; and, in the medium term, on what damage the US drive for global supremacy does.
