FUTURES
RESEARCH
6100 MILLENNIUM PROJECT - (1990s) REFERENCES
As will be seen, from the list below, material about the future of the world may be obtained from a wide variety of sources. Of these, perhaps the most useful are the weekly news magazines, such as Newsweek and Time; and the most useful of all is, paradoxically, the oldest (founded more than 150 years ago) - The Economist - which (despite its off-putting title) gives the widest and best coverage. Adding some specialist weeklies will extend the coverage: Business Week, for management topics, Scientific American and especially the New Scientist, for science and technology. Beyond this basic coverage, the reports of the leading think-tanks may also offer new ideas about the future.
Although the subjects referred to in the book are covered - directly and indirectly - by many hundreds of books and journals - and I seem to have read literally thousands of these - I have restricted myself here to listing just those publications from which I have taken a quotation. As far as possible, the quotations used to support the various sections of the material have been chosen both to advance the ideas presented and to give a flavour of the publication from which they come.
Where an author has more than one entry on this list, each of these is further identified - in the original reference as well as here - by an alphabetic identifier.
