8020 Entity Part 3 - Practical Entity

In a scientific age, which views all from a pragmatic viewpoint, the basic challenge of the paranormal is its nature. By definition it lies outside the experience of normality; and is a matter of belief, or of personal experience, not of shared observation.

And yet it does interact with the normal, and can be experienced. An act of belief is only necessary as a beginning. The impact of ENTITY is here and now, not in a promised land after death. It is a part of life, not divorced from it.

The difficulty lies in conceptualising ENTITY in the three dimensions of our visualised world.

It would be easy to portray ENTITY as some specialised variant of the electromagnetic spectrum; as if it were some private radio device. This would, however, be totally misleading. It is this search for simplistic solutions, based on minor modification of existing observed theory,  that is the downfall of science in its dealings with the paranormal.

Instead, it has to be recognised that ENTITY is totally different to the scientific phenomena mankind has already explored. There is no special reason why we have to be constrained to only three dimensions. There is no a-priori requirement that time should be one way.

The scene is set, therefore, for phenomena involving dimensions that we have not yet conceived of, and may never be able to fully understand, ranging throughout time without reference to direction.

In many respects, the discovery of the electromagnetic spectrum provides a remarkably close scientific parallel. It is only within the past three centuries that we have begun to understand the theories behind such radiation. Previously we simply had light, which was completely natural; the source of life. Despite the fact that light conveyed almost all the information man received, no-one understood how it worked, nor even saw any pressing need to find out.

At the same time there were a number of supposedly paranormal events, such as lightning, which could not be explained; and hence were, inevitably, consigned to the general area of magic. These paranormal events followed no obvious logic. Accordingly they were not seen to be susceptible to investigation.

Despite the immense obstacles they faced, a few pioneering scientists were still able to discover electricity and magnetism. Developing new instruments to measure phenomena that human beings could never experience directly, they eventually were able to explore the world of electromagnetism.

Now our life revolves around these unseen, previously unsuspected, phenomena. A substantial proportion of our energy is now conveyed by invisible electricity, and our communication is highly dependent upon electromagnetic radiation. How would you explain television to the citizen of the eighteenth century; except as some form of very advanced magic.

It is particularly poignant that the very scientists, whose almost complete preoccupation now is the electromagnetic spectrum, refuse to countenance another similar phenomenon; on the grounds that it is subject to exactly the same investigational problems that their own discipline experienced less than three centuries ago.

To this point the parallel with electromagnetism works well. Here, however, it breaks down, since ENTITY is an infinitely more complex phenomenon. In somewhat oversimplified terms, it can be seen as a bridge between the physical and biological sciences; and shares with the latter an almost stupefying degree of complexity.

We still have a long way to go before we can truly explain the workings of the simplest living cell. Far beyond this is any explanation of how the human brain operates; and it is within the brain that the secret of ENTITY lies. The complexity of the brain is beyond imagination. Even now, its power is tapped by human beings to only a minute percentage of the potential already apparent; and its ultimate potential in the context of ENTITY is yet unknown.

There are many tracts that attempt to explore the details of the human brain. This will not be one of them. The reference to the brain is simply to put in context the nature of ENTITY. The two are inextricably interwoven, and this results in ENTITY having organic features.

In particular, ENTITY is itself intelligent. It is not an inanimate force or field, that lies dormant until it is energised. It is, instead, a living body, a sentient being, that interacts with the stimuli applied to it.

Although it is beyond our current stage of development to appreciate exactly what ENTITY is, or how it works, we can postulate some general rules as to what it contains, and what of this content observers can retrieve.

In essence, ENTITY is a record of all events, no matter how unimportant they might appear. The only requirement is that the event should be observed by a sentient being, even if this observation lies outside the normal visual experience and is at the subconscious level. It is, in many ways, comparable with the process of photography. The event is not recorded as a result of taking place, but by being observed; as the photograph captures the action when the shutter is opened.

The amount of information so recorded is, even over the lifetime of but one individual, beyond our comprehension. This information is, however, not merely recorded. It is also condensed, and filtered, by the observer; in exactly the same way that the individual handles his own memory. This is not entirely unexpected, since ENTITY is written by exactly those processes that also create memory.

One result of this is that the events that register most vividly with the observer are recorded in the greatest detail; and are most prominent in the landscape of ENTITY. Trivial, or irrelevant, happenings on the other hand make barely a ripple on the surface.

The record so created is, in principle, available to all sentient beings at any point in the history of the universe. There are, in reality, practical limitations; imposed by the ability of the enquirer. The problems of extracting one specific item of information from an almost infinitely long record are obvious,

The selection is considerably aided if the record is prominent, and detailed. It is also easier if the format is close to that used by the enquirer. Where the original observer and the enquirer share the same culture, the information becomes more meaningful. At its extreme, retrieval is easiest where there are close family links; and genetic patterns are reinforced by shared environment.

The converse is also true. Where there are extensive differences between the two ends of the chain communication becomes difficult, if not impossible. To appreciate the problem one has only to think of the communication gap between strangers speaking different languages.

Thus, the messages sent to us by the countless populations of the future have to be essentially simple. We basically would not be able to grasp any more sophisticated concepts.

Even between individuals who share the same culture the simplest messages are the easiest to convey. Typically theses are the emotions; particularly the basic, raw, emotions.

We all know, and intuitively recognise the truth in, the statement that 'fear is contagious'. Equally, we may well have attended large meetings where an infectious feeling has swept the audience. The conventional explanation of this, when it reaches its extreme manifestation, is 'mass hysteria'; and there is certainly an element of shared experience.

However, the major factor is ENTITY. The simple messages that are related to the emotions are powerful communicators. This is especially so when the emotions are powerful in their original form. Such emotions are fear, or even the ecstatic joy of the participant in a fervent pop concert.

For example, when there is a great gathering of people, with their minds closely attuned, their basic individual emotions transmitted through ENTITY may resonate; and can be magnified many times. Thus, even at a pop concert the 'atmosphere' may become so intense as to be almost physical.

The same technique has been used at political rallies and at religious meetings. The simplest, most elemental, message is repeated over and over; until it is amplified by the faithful in the audience to produce a state of ecstasy.

On a strictly personal level, the same ability to transmit emotions makes ENTITY an essential part of the links that bind the family together. With the closest genetic and environmental relationships, members of a family find it particularly easy to share their emotions through ENTITY. This is most true where the relationship is closest; with twins, or in marital relationship where the links are cemented by the particularly powerful emotions transmitted during the sexual union.

In this way, our emotions, and a multitude of other simple messages, are continuously conveyed by ENTITY and form a major element in our communications with others.

Hence, the dictum 'love they neighbour' has a very practical basis, as well as a spiritual one. If you share loving feelings with other beings then your relationships will be warm and beneficial. If, on the other hand, you transmit negative feelings through ENTITY the recipient will become aware of these; no matter how efficiently you disguise them on the surface.

ENTITY is, though, more complex. It is not simply a telephone exchange, to transmit our emotions to others; or to be used to connect two telepaths. Nor is it simply a library that is the repository of all knowledge.

As already stated, it is intelligent in its own right. Maybe it is the essence of all intelligence. This intelligence becomes, therefore, the main feature of our interaction with it.

The enquirer has the personal guidance of the best qualified expert; he can, in effect, ask the librarian to find the information for him. The resultant data is sifted, analysed and interpreted before it is presented; overcoming many of the cultural limitations. The information presented is, thus, usable by the recipient; without the impossible task of decoding.

At the same time, ENTITY selectively provides information to those who are most responsive; even without any enquiry to initiate the process. These flashes of true inspiration are the very foundation of our knowledge. The mainspring driving our civilisation forward is the innovation fathered by ENTITY.
