8203 Alliance Theory, as developed in 1980
In the original context for this extensive - albeit unpublished work - I wrote a very structured set of texts which commented on aspects of society at the time. In particular, they covered the ‘alliance’ which the SDP had just struck with the Liberals and which then seemed to be the way to the future. Of course we now know that nothing of the kind came to pass! But most of the other points I made at the time are still remarkably valid – a good test over time! In 2001, at the end of the Millennium Project, I added the italicized and underlined comments in each of them to point up the issues which had become somewhat outdated, though surprisingly few of the principles underpinning them had in fact been outdated to any significant extent.
